How We Started

For years, owner Patti Staley and her daughters had the opportunity to travel throughout the country. Patti usually returned from her travels with one-of-a-kind gifts she hadn’t been able to find in her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After returning from one trip to Los Angeles with a particularly stunning piece of hand-made jewelry and a few designer outfits for her grandchildren, Patti had the idea that she could share the treasures from her shopping expeditions by starting a boutique of her own. Patti wanted to create a cozy atmosphere in which customers could discover unique items that would enhance the beauty of all areas of their home, thus, The Picket Fence was born. Patti and her daughters have gathered an eclectic collection of quality merchandise.

What We Do

The Picket Fence is a small boutique offering you personal assistance when you’re looking for that special something for a friend, a child, or even yourself. We also carry small to well known designers of women’s clothing and accessories. Is your child or a niece, nephew, or grandchild having a birthday? We carry a number of distinctive toys that are not widely available, so you are sure find something special that reflects each child’s unique personality. At The Little Gym, we believe kids should be able to act like kids. We also believe fun environments are especially conducive to the kind of learning that prepares them for life’s adventures. Through unique programs that revolve around active play, we complement and enhance the traditional school experience – even before kids are school age! We give children a safe and inspiring space to direct their energy, build confidence, and develop key skills.

It’s never too early for your little one to start learning and have some Serious Fun. From infant to toddler, our Parent and Child classes in McMurray promote early development and provide a strong foundation for your childʼs critical first three years. The Little Gym is excited to be in our 17th Season of classes! We are thankful every day for our amazing members and our wonderful community. Miss Amy opened the gym in 2005 and Miss Erin joined the team that year. Along with Miss Katie, Miss Nicole, Miss LeAnn and many other team members, we are always looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new friends!

The Little Gym is a non-competitive and serious fun children’s gym offering activities for kids ages 4 months – 12 years. Programs include parent/child classes, and prek and grade school gymnastics. In addition, The Little Gym offers Birthday parties, camps and parents survival nights too!

Salty Soothers & Designs was first founded by a Pittsburgh mom holding a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by hand making baby teethers and pacifier clips customized with baby names. Once her fundraising goal was met, the demand for the personalized baby items continued to grow and so Salty Soothers & Designs was officially born. 

From there, they have added new items based on customer requests, started selling their teethers and paci clips in a local gift shop, and collaborated with other local small businesses to offer a wider selection of personalized and handcrafted gifts. Salty Soothers & Designs loves to connect with each of their customers to ensure their customized designs are exactly as expected. 

A portion of the proceeds are still given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with the hope that one day a cure will be found.
