MEET A MOM – GABRIELLE MONACO SENIOR STYLIST FOR STITCH FIX AND CYCLE INSTRUCTOR AT SWEAT PGH
Where are you originally from, and how long have you lived in Pittsburgh?
I’ve lived in the South Hills of Pittsburgh all my life!
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have one son. He just turned one on December 22.
What do you love about living in Pittsburgh?
I love being surrounded by family! We have a tight knit Italian family that’s rooted here in Pittsburgh. I also love our sports teams, mainly the Penguins! We are hockey fans and our family has season tickets.
What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop in Pittsburgh?
That’s tough because we’re foodies! We love authentic Italian cuisine, so DiAnoia’s ranks high on our list, but there are so many great restaurants in Pittsburgh. It’s hard to pick just one!
Tell us about your business.
I worked full-time for Philips Healthcare selling medical equipment, but recently made a career change to raise my son, Santino. I now work full-time as a Senior Stylist for Stitch Fix which is much more manageable, fun and rewarding! A fun fact about me is that I am an indoor cycle instructor at Sweat PGH in my free time, and I am a landlord for my investment property.
What do you love about your job?
I love my job because I enjoy empowering and motivating others to look their best and feel confident! I also love to inspire others to live their lives authentically and express themselves through fashion and fitness!
What is your favorite thing to do with your children and/or family?
My husband and I enjoy taking our son for walks around the neighborhood. We live on the same street as my parents and enjoy Sunday dinners there and swimming in the summer. We love spending time outside enjoying the sunshine (when it’s here!)
How do you juggle work and motherhood?
It’s a tough balance, but when I made my career change, it allowed me to have a much more flexible schedule. My time with my son is so important to me, especially during these early, developmental years – everything else is secondary! Family comes first, always!
How has the Pittsburgh community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I have built a foundation here in Pittsburgh as a fitness instructor at Sweat PGH and surrounded myself with active, like-minded people! The community at Sweat PGH is unlike any other! I have made amazing, life-long friends and have a solid support system!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from another mom?
“Do what works for you.”
Is there anything that you would like to share with other moms?
Never compare yourself to other moms. Do what works for you and you’re family regardless of what that might look like to other people!
